Samardžić, University of Osijek, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Slavonski Brod, Croatia Low cycle fatigue test was performed in ambient atmosphere at room temperature. Cycle loading of material, in case of High strength low-alloy steel, entails modifications of its properties and in this paper is therefore shown behavior of fatigue life using low cycle fatigue parameters. More precisely, crack initiation life of tested specimens was computed using theory of Coffin-Manson relation during the fatigue loading. The geometry of the stabilized hysteresis loop of welded joint HSLA steel, marked as Nionikral 70, is also analyzed. This stabilized hysteresis loop is very important for determination of materials properties.

The Ballistic Behavior of High Strength, Low Alloy-100 Steel at Sub-zero Temperatures

The ballistic response of the high strength, low alloy (HSLA-100) steel at ambient and temperatures of -400°C, -800°C and -1960°C is investigated in this work. Lambert-jonas equation is used to fit the experimental results into a curve. The effect of quenching on ballistic behavior of HSLA-100 is also studied. The experiments are conducted on 3mm thick rectangular specimens impacted by blunt ti...

EFFECTS OF TENSILE STRENGTH ON FATIGUE BEHAVIOR AND NOTCH SENSITIVITY OF TI-6AL-4V

In this research, rotating bending fatigue test at minimum to maximum stress ratio of R=-1 was used for investigating the fatigue behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Both smooth and notched specimens, with elastic concentration factor, kt, of approximately 3.6 and 4.1 were used for this purpose. In addition, the effect of variation in ultimate tensile strength, UTS, on the fatigue behavior of this allo...

Modeling of Corrosion-Fatigue Crack Growth Rate Based on Least Square Support Vector Machine Technique

Understanding crack growth behavior in engineering components subjected to cyclic fatigue loadings is necessary for design and maintenance purpose. Fatigue crack growth (FCG) rate strongly depends on the applied loading characteristics in a nonlinear manner, and when the mechanical loadings combine with environmental attacks, this dependency will be more complicated. Since, the experimental inv...

Assessment of different methods for fatigue life prediction of steel in rotating bending and axial loading

Generally, fatigue failure in an element happens at the notch on a surface where the stress level rises because of the stress concentration effect. The present paper investigates the effect of a notch on the fatigue life of the HSLA100 (high strength low alloy) steel which is widely applicable in the marine industry. Tensile test was conducted on specimens and mechanical properties were obtain...
